With the hope of a new beginning, professional association WIN Romania received recently a new identity, being established as an independent organization with its own legal personality.

WIN Romania was set up in 1993 year, as a group affiliated with WIN Global, by a group of several female employees of institutions that were engaged at that time in nuclear research activities, namely: CITON (ISPE-ON at the time), ICN Pitesti and IFIN Magurele .

Group WIN – Romania has developed over time, by the accession of new members from the institutions involved in nuclear activities in Romania: Energy Group for Nuclear Energy in former RENEL (converted in 1998 in SNN SA – Nuclearelectrica National Company SA and RAAN – Reggie Autonom for Nuclear Activities), Cernavoda NPP, FCN- Nuclear Fuel in Pitesti, AN & DR – Nuclear Agency and for Radioactive Waste, University Polytechnic in Bucharest, several Romanian companies that provide equipment / components, spare parts and technical services as specialized support to Cernavoda NPP operation, namely – SIVECO, Matefin, AGER, UTI Systems.

Global WIN – Women in Nuclear, to which WIN Romania is affiliated, is a non-profit international organization of women working in the nuclear industry worldwide, especially in areas like electricity and radiation, nuclear technology application in medicine and health care, the regulatory authorities, industry and independent researchers and its aims are to promote the benefits of applications of nuclear energy and radiation to the large number of people.

Since its establishment in 1993 and until now, WIN Romania has been acting under AREN – the Romanian Association for Nuclear Energy coordination.

From August 2011, WIN Romania became an independent association with legal personality, being established as a non-profit NGO.

Association WIN Romania is affiliated and meets the status and objectives of both WIN Global and WIN Europe.

The purpose of this association is to promote and support the nuclear program in Romania and worldwide, to inform the public, fairly and transparently, about the benefits and risks of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes – electricity and heat production, food processing, medicine, agriculture, etc..

The main objectives of the association are:
- achievement of a permanent dialogue with the public by providing information on the application of nuclear technology and radiological effect on people, society and environment;
- participation in the exchange of knowledge and experience, among its members and other professional and social categories;
- to promote interest, especially among women and youth, for choosing a career in nuclear energy and nuclear engineering, in applications for peaceful use of radiation and other professions related to nuclear field
- providing a relational structure in which women working in the nuclear sector to be able to develop their professional profile;
- collaboration, both in terms of professional and informational areas, with WIN members from other countries – through participation in conferences, work-shops, exchange of experience in nuclear related activities.

To meet those goals, WIN Romania members will develop the following activities:
- organizing public events, presentations, etc.., to support nuclear programs and public awareness of nuclear energy for peaceful uses;
- drafting, editing and dissemination of books, periodicals, leaflets, posters, brochures, website and other materials dedicated;
- organizing training courses, seminars, conferences, public debates, camps, summer schools, exhibitions;
- developing their own programs and in partnership with local and foreign public authorities and organizations dedicated to the field;
- advice and counseling members of the Association, and natural or legal persons outside the Association, in accordance with its purpose;
- application of the valuable experience of the retired specialized personnel by sharing their experience and knowledge in the field with younger people involved in nuclear, as a great benefit by their involvement in activities of consulting and advisory bodies / organizations and individuals interested in nuclear

Having the aims to further develop WIN Romania activity, we call on those who are interested to support the work of the association, coming up with proposals for cooperation and willingness to participate in the activities of the organization, in the spirit of collegiality, friendship and, above all, professionalism that is a characteristic of persons involved in the nuclear field.
